Agricultural Leadership Intern Program (ALIP)

OVERVIEW:

The WFD ALIP provides a secondary or post-secondary school student focused on an agricultural career path and who has been accepted into a relevant educational program the opportunity to be a summer intern with Western Fair District in its Agriculture Department and other related departments. The intern will be selected based on their interest and pursuit of agriculture-related fields of education, demonstrated leadership qualities, completeness of application and interview.

The WFD ALIP is funded by the Western Fair Association, a not-for-profit Agricultural Society.

The program is designed to expand the student’s knowledge of the importance of agriculture, ag-education programming and public service. It will also provide learning and professional experiences for the intern.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:

The successful applicant will be placed in a professional summer internship at WFD.
The intern will be assigned a professional mentor, one WFD mentor who will train and guide the student during the program.
The intern will work in a paid internship for up to 40 hours per week from May through August 31. The schedule will be determined in coordination with the mentor and student.
The intern is responsible for arranging their transportation to and from the Western Fair District in London, Ontario.
The intern must wear appropriate office attire.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for the WFD ALIP you must:

Provide all of the necessary documentation.
Be interested in agricultural-related careers.

Be a senior secondary student or post-secondary student, accepted or currently enrolled, in a course/program that matches the principles of an Agricultural Society, see below.

The objects of an agricultural society are to encourage an awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in an agricultural community by:

researching the needs of the agricultural community and developing programs to meet those needs;
holding agricultural exhibitions featuring competitions for which prizes may be awarded;
promoting the conservation of natural resources;
encouraging the beautification of the agricultural community;
supporting and providing facilities to encourage activities intended to enrich rural life; and
conducting or promoting horse races when authorized to do so by a by-law of the society.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
Require two (2) letters of recommendation who are not a family member.
Must submit an unofficial academic transcript* via email.

*An unofficial Academic Transcript is a document which states your course, subjects and results, completion date, graduation date and is signed by a teacher, counsellor or professor.
